Alexis Martin

Alexis Martin is Lexpat’s Senior Consultant for Development and Government Programs. She is a democracy, human rights, and communications expert with over 20 years working in fragile and complex environments. Her expertise also extends to program development, monitoring, and evaluation, as well as international business operations.
Alexis began her international development career in Central Asia supporting the development of independent television and radio stations. She then joined the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) where she served as the media and democracy advisor for Europe and Eurasia. Alexis later moved to Afghanistan, where she developed a network of women-led radio stations, and then to Iraq, where she served as a media advisor for the United Nations and also initiated the National Dialogue Program to inform and include Iraqi citizens in political discussions.
Most recently, Alexis served as the head of the Washington Office and business development for a justice and human rights focused NGO, writing over $20million in grants from various government and foundation donors.
During her service in the United States Army, Alexis was a certified human intelligence collector. She has a Master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Russian studies and International Economics. Alexis speaks Arabic, Polish, Russian, and Spanish. She is also an officer and member of the Board of Directors of the Learning Centre for Democracy and Human Rights.
